Barcelona Agree £69m Deal for Newcastle Winger Gordon

Barcelona have reached an agreement with Newcastle United for the transfer of England forward Anthony Gordon in a deal worth more than £69 million.

BBC Sport reported on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, that both clubs concluded advanced negotiations for the 24-year-old winger, with the fee believed to exceed €80 million.

The report stated that Gordon is expected to complete the remaining formalities of the move before joining his England teammates for their training camp in the United States ahead of the World Cup.

German champions Bayern Munich were also said to have held talks with Newcastle over a possible move for the winger but could not meet the Premier League side’s valuation. Barcelona eventually tabled an offer acceptable to the Magpies.

Newcastle had remained firm throughout negotiations, insisting they would only sell under favourable conditions. The club’s chief executive, David Hopkinson, had earlier maintained that key players would not be allowed to leave unless the terms suited the club.

Although Gordon’s contract at Newcastle runs until 2030, the transfer is expected to provide a significant financial boost as the club plans a squad overhaul following a disappointing 12th-place finish in the Premier League.

Part of the transfer fee will go to Everton, who included a 15 per cent sell-on clause when Gordon joined Newcastle in a deal worth up to £45 million in 2023.

Gordon had increasingly been tipped as one of Newcastle’s likely departures this summer and was left on the bench for the club’s final four matches of the season, with manager Eddie Howe already preparing for changes ahead of next season.

Fans sang Gordon’s name after Newcastle’s final-day defeat to Fulham, in what now appears to have been his farewell appearance for the club.
