Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), on Wednesday night led a protest at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Abuja, drawing scores of supporters who gathered to demand stronger action against insecurity in parts of the country.
The activist reportedly proceeded to the military facility shortly after returning to Nigeria from China, where he had been on a trip.
Videos circulating on social media showed VeryDarkMan addressing supporters outside the base while criticising the worsening security situation and calling for greater efforts to tackle banditry, terrorism and other violent crimes across the country.
Supporters, many of whom identify with the Ratel Movement, joined the protest and chanted slogans as the activist delivered his message.
During the demonstration, VeryDarkMan urged security authorities to intensify military operations against criminal groups responsible for attacks on communities, particularly in the northern region.
The protest attracted attention from residents and motorists in the area, while security personnel monitored activities around the facility.
As of Thursday morning, neither the Nigerian Air Force nor other security agencies had issued an official statement regarding the protest.
The demonstration comes amid growing public concern over recurring attacks by armed groups in several parts of the country and increasing calls for stronger security measures.
VeryDarkMan has in recent months become increasingly involved in advocacy campaigns and public demonstrations, using his social media platforms to draw attention to issues ranging from governance and accountability to insecurity and social justice.
More details are expected as authorities and organisers provide further information on the outcome of the protest.
