A Federal High Court in Benin, presided over by Justice B. O. Quadri, has adjourned the cyberstalking case filed against Barr. Ede Asenoguan, a former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Benin Branch, to June 29, 2026, pending a report of out of court settlement.
The suit with No. FHC/C/117/2025, was adjourned following an oral application made by E. O. Afolabi, counsel to the nominal complainant, Omoruyi Oloton, Chief Executive Officer of Uyi Technical Ltd.
The application was supported by Douglas Ogbankua Esq. and E. E. Oisamoje.
When the case came up on Thursday, Afolabi informed the court that the defendant, Barr. Asenoguan, had approached his client, Uyi Oloton, for an out-of-court settlement.
According to Afolabi, consequent upon the move for settlement, Oloton requested that the defendant formally put the proposal for an amicable resolution in writing.
He also assured the court that he would arrange a meeting between Asenoguan and Oloton in a bid to reach a final resolution of the matter and would report back at the next adjourned date.
The prosecutor, P. Odion, and Jude Imagbeghian, counsel to the defendant, did not oppose the application for adjournment.
At the last adjourned date, Afolabi had intimated the court that parties in the suit were already exploring the possibility of an out-of-court settlement.
