World Cup: Germany Put Seven Past Curaçao in Group E Opener

Germany made an emphatic start to their 2026 World Cup campaign on Sunday, 14th of June, thrashing debutants Curaçao 7-1 in their Group E opener at Houston Stadium on Sunday.

Kai Havertz scored twice while Musiala, Brown contributed to multiple goals as the heavy favorites overwhelmed the World Cup newcomers .

Felix Nmecha opened the scoring in the 6th minute, before Livano Comenencia briefly leveled for Curaçao in the 21st minute.

Comenencia’s strike marked Curaçao’s first-ever World Cup goal , but it proved to be little more than a footnote. Germany were 3-1 up at the break as Schlotterbeck headed home and Havertz converted from the penalty spot.

Denis Undav came off the bench to score and assist two others, Nathaniel Brown had a goal and an assist, and Joshua Kimmich provided two assists as the rout continued in the second half. The win marks Germany’s 10th straight World Cup victory, as they begin their bid for a fifth title.

Germany now face a much tougher test against Ivory Coast next Saturday, while Curaçao will look to bounce back when they take on Ecuador in their second group game.
