Police Arrest Housewife for Allegedly Slitting Husband’s Throat in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old housewife, Sadiya Lawal, for allegedly attempting to kill her husband by slitting his throat while he was asleep in Katsina metropolis.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

According to the statement, the victim, Jamilu Ibrahim, reported the incident at the Central Market Police Division at about 9 a.m. on Monday, alleging that his wife attacked him with a knife while he was asleep earlier that morning.

Police said Ibrahim sustained a deep cut to the neck and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is responding to treatment.

Following the report, officers visited the scene, arrested the suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.

Sadiq said the suspect remains in police custody and will be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.

He said, “On June 29, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., one Jamilu Ibrahim reported at the Central Market Division, Katsina, that at about 5:30 a.m. on the same day, while he was asleep, his wife, Sadiya Lawal, 23, attacked him with a knife in an attempt to slit his throat. The victim sustained a deep cut injury to the neck.

“Following the report, the victim was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention, where he is currently responding to treatment.

“The scene was visited, the suspect was arrested, and the knife suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered. The suspect is in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.”

In a separate operation, the police said operatives foiled a bandits’ attack in Dandume Local Government Area, recovering two motorcycles and a machete after engaging the fleeing suspects in a gun battle.

According to the command, the incident occurred on June 28 after a distress call alerted officers that a large group of armed bandits riding motorcycles had been sighted along the Kadisau-Sheme Road in Dandume LGA.

The Divisional Police Officer reportedly mobilised operatives from the Violent Crimes Response Unit and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to the area, where they confronted the bandits in a gun duel.

The suspects were forced to retreat and fled the scene, abandoning two operational motorcycles and a machete, which were recovered by the police. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Reacting to both incidents, the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar Fage, commended the officers involved in repelling the bandits and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He also cautioned residents against domestic violence, urging families to resolve disputes through peaceful and lawful means.

“The command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. We also urge members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information that will aid the police in combating crime and criminality,” the commissioner said.

The command had in May foiled separate kidnapping and cattle-rustling operations in Kankara and Malumfashi Local Government Areas, rescuing 11 abducted passengers and recovering 25 stolen cows.
