Nollywood Veteran Elegbeje Ado Dies

Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known as Elegbeje Ado, has passed away.

The actor’s death was confirmed on Tuesday by his colleague, Kunle Afod, who announced the sad news in a heartfelt tribute shared on his Instagram page, paying tribute to the late screen veteran’s life and contributions to the Nigerian film industry.

“We regret to announce the passing of one of the legends of the Yoruba Nollywood industry, Baba Elegbeje Ado.

“Your immense contribution to the growth of Yoruba cinema, your talent, and the joy you brought to countless lives will never be forgotten.

“Thank you for the beautiful memories and the legacy you left behind. May your soul rest in perfect peace.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to your family, friends, colleagues, and fans during this difficult time.

“Rest in peace, Baba Elegbeje Ado. Your legacy lives on forever,” Afod wrote.

Adeshina built a career spanning more than two decades in the Yoruba movie industry, becoming known for portraying traditional rulers, community elders and other culturally significant characters.

His stage name, “Elegbeje Ado,” was derived from one of his most celebrated film roles, which became synonymous with his career and earned him widespread recognition among lovers of Yoruba cinema.

Beyond acting, he was also a Christian minister, combining his work in the film industry with pastoral duties throughout his lifetime.
