OYO, IBANDAN – Tension gripped Ogbomoso on Monday after operatives of the Nigeria Police reportedly arrested the father of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the disowned Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), during a visit to the family’s residence.
According to sources familiar with the incident, police officers stormed the Adeyemi family home in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, where they arrested Adeyemi’s father. A family friend who had visited the residence on Monday morning was also reportedly taken into custody during the operation.
The development reportedly left Adeyemi’s elderly mother traumatized and in shock as security operatives carried out the arrests.
Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, confirmed the arrest while speaking with journalists, describing the action as legally indefensible.
“The father has been arrested. There is no legal basis for substituted arrests. The young man has promised to show up in court, so why arrest his father?” Falana queried.
The senior lawyer maintained that Nigerian law does not recognize the practice of arresting or detaining relatives in place of a suspect, emphasizing that criminal liability is personal and cannot be transferred to family members.
