Gunmen Storm Kogi School During NECO Exams, Abduct Principal, Students, Officials

Armed gunmen on Tuesday invaded Government Secondary School (GSS), Olowa (also referred to as Odo-Ekina) in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting the school principal, four students, and a National Examinations Council (NECO) ad hoc staff member while candidates were writing their exams.

The attack occurred at about 5:25 pm, throwing the school community into panic as the assailants stormed the premises and fled with their victims to an unknown destination.

Counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama reported that a combined team of security operatives immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation.

“The attackers abducted four students alongside the principal of the school and a NECO ad hoc official before fleeing to an unknown destination,” the report stated.

Security sources confirmed that one of the abducted students has since been rescued, while intensified efforts continue to free the remaining victims. Operatives have commenced bush-combing operations, intelligence gathering, and surveillance to locate the kidnappers’ hideout.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as security agencies work to apprehend the perpetrators and restore normalcy.
