Tinubu Presents Shettima With APC Vice Presidential Nomination Certificate

President Bola Tinubu has presented Vice President Kashim Shettima with the official certificate confirming his nomination as the All Progressives Congress (APC) vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The certificate was presented during a brief ceremony held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the President’s office in the State House, Abuja.

A 45-second video released by the State House media office showed Shettima being ushered into the President’s office by the President’s Liaison Officer before the presentation of the certificate.

The ceremony came days after the APC formally submitted the nomination forms of President Tinubu and Shettima to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the electoral body’s nomination deadline.

On July 10, 2026, the nomination forms were presented to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, at the Continental Hotel in Abuja by the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, acting on behalf of Tinubu.

INEC had initially fixed July 11, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit Forms EC9 and EC9A–EC9E for presidential, vice-presidential, Senate and House of Representatives candidates, in line with Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act 2026. However, the commission later extended the deadline to Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

Following the extension, the APC formally submitted the names of Tinubu and Shettima as its presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 election. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, expressed confidence that the APC would retain power in the forthcoming general election.

Tinubu secured the APC presidential ticket on May 23, 2026, after polling 10,999,162 votes to defeat his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, who received 16,503 votes.

The 2027 presidential election is scheduled to hold on January 16, 2027, in line with the revised electoral timetable under the Electoral Act 2026.
