The Adamawa State Police Command has recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux valued at N7.5 million and arrested two suspects over alleged criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Mustapha Suleiman of Wuro Hausa and Rabiu Garba, 38, of Jambutu in Yola North Local Government Area, were arrested following a report lodged by Aliyu Usman.
Nguroje said Usman had purchased the Toyota Hilux for N7.5 million before discovering that it had been reported stolen.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was stolen in Rivers State in June 2026 before being transported to Adamawa by a suspect identified simply as Mati, who is currently on the run.
Police alleged that Mati conspired with the two arrested suspects to sell the stolen vehicle to the complainant.
Upon discovering the vehicle’s status, Usman reported the matter to the police, prompting operatives of the command to arrest the suspects, recover the Hilux and trace its rightful owner.
Commending the complainant for his honesty, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabiru Hassan, urged members of the public to verify the ownership and documentation of vehicles before purchasing them.
He also directed officers of the command to intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect and ensure that everyone connected with the crime is brought to justice.
According to the police, investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.
