The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested four members of a vehicle theft syndicate that specialised in posing as passengers on e-hailing platforms to rob Bolt and Uber drivers of their vehicles and valuables.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, paraded the suspects and recovered exhibits at the command headquarters on Monday. The arrests were made on July 7, 2026, based on credible intelligence gathered by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit.
“The suspects operated by posing as regular passengers booking commercial vehicles through e-ride platforms before attacking the drivers, dispossessing them of their vehicles and other valuables,” Sanusi said.
The suspects have been identified as Ibrahim Ismail, Ahmed Omar, Rizku Asehu, and Omar Abubakar. Two stolen vehicles were recovered during the operation: an ash-coloured Toyota RAV4 with registration number YAB 240 DL and a grey Honda Civic with registration number ABC 72 JP.
The CP stated that the suspects would be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations. He described the arrests as part of several breakthroughs in the command’s ongoing crackdown on violent crimes across the FCT.
Sanusi attributed the successes to intelligence from residents and urged the public to continue providing timely information. “The achievements I present to you underscore the importance of partnership with the public and timely intelligence sharing in enhancing our efforts to keep the Federal Capital Territory safe for all residents and visitors alike,” he said.
He reiterated that security is a collective responsibility and assured residents of the command’s sustained offensive against criminal elements in and around the FCT.
In a related development during the same parade, police also arrested a suspected kidnapper and logistics supplier linked to a kidnapping gang. The suspect, Oumar Odunda from Zamfara State, was apprehended on July 10 in Nasarawa State. He allegedly supplied illicit drugs and materials to sustain kidnapping operations, including the July 8 abduction at Yellow House in Mpape, Abuja.
Items recovered from his hideouts included an AK-47 rifle, various hard drugs like Tramadol and suspected cocaine, cash, and other materials. He will also be charged in court upon completion of investigations.
