NNSS Akpabuyo @20: Commandant Commends Cross River Government

AKPABUYO, CROSS RIVER – The Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School (NNSS), Akpabuyo, Navy Captain Muhammad Nura Dahalatu, has commended the Government of Cross River State, the Chief of the Naval Staff and the Eastern Naval Command for their sustained support, describing their contributions as instrumental to the growth and success of the institution over the past two decades.

Dahalatu gave the commendation while speaking with journalists during the school’s 20th anniversary celebration and the 2026 Passing-Out Parade and Graduation Ceremony held in Calabar.

He said the support of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Naval Headquarters and the Eastern Naval Command had enabled the school to remain focused on its mandate of producing academically sound and morally upright young Nigerians.

The Commandant said, “Our mission has always been to produce young men and women who are academically excellent, morally upright, physically fit and committed to national service.”

According to him, the Nigerian Navy Secondary School was established to provide world-class education anchored on discipline, patriotism and excellence, noting that the institution has produced thousands of alumni making meaningful contributions across different professions in Nigeria and beyond.

“Twenty years later, that vision has blossomed into a legacy of outstanding academic performance, exemplary character formation and remarkable achievements by our alumni,” Dahalatu said.

The Commandant also expressed gratitude to the Government of Cross River State and the people of Akpabuyo Community for what he described as their unwavering hospitality and partnership since the establishment of the school.

He noted that the cordial relationship between the school, the state government and host community had created an enabling environment for learning, discipline and character development.

Dahalatu equally acknowledged the commitment of past Commandants, teachers, instructors, administrative staff and parents, saying their sacrifices had shaped the institution into one of the Nigerian Navy’s leading secondary schools.

The celebration also featured the recognition of the pioneer Commandant, retired Commodore Amatre Kpou, who was honoured as the Special Guest of Honour for laying the foundation upon which the institution has continued to thrive over the last 20 years.

Addressing the graduating Class of 2026, the Commandant urged them to uphold the values that had distinguished the school throughout its history.

“As you march out of these gates, remember that the values of discipline, integrity, responsibility, courage and patriotism must remain your lifelong companions. Be worthy ambassadors of this great institution wherever life takes you,” he charged.

The ceremony featured a colourful passing-out parade, presentation of awards to outstanding cadets and activities commemorating the school’s 20th anniversary.

The event also marked Dahalatu’s final official assignment as Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Calabar, where he congratulated the graduating students and encouraged them to remain committed to honour, discipline and excellence throughout their future endeavours.
