Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Maimunatu Idris, for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend and severing his genitals during a violent altercation in the Badawa area of Kano.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the incident in a post on X on Tuesday.

According to the police, the incident occurred at about 12:50 p.m. on Monday, July 27, at Durbar Hotel in Badawa.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Idris, a native of Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a knife after an argument reportedly sparked by his decision to marry another woman.

Police said the victim sustained severe injuries, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The management of the hotel alerted security operatives to the violent altercation.

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Badawa Division swiftly mobilized a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was taken into custody.

Police also recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack as evidence.

According to Kiyawa, the victim was immediately rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

He added that detectives have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Reacting to the development, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, condemned the alleged attack, stressing that violence is never an acceptable way to resolve personal disputes.

“The Nigeria Police Force is constitutionally empowered to investigate, arrest and prosecute offenders through due process.

Members of the public should desist from taking the law into their own hands under any guise,” the police commissioner added.
