Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has approved the recruitment of 6,580 qualified candidates into teaching, technical and administrative positions across public primary and junior secondary schools, with the majority of the appointments designated for the state’s 267 Smart Green Schools.

The recruitment exercise was announced on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, through a vacancy notice issued by the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), Hyginus Banko.

Although most of the Smart Green Schools are still under construction, the state government said the recruitment is part of preparations for their commencement of operations.

According to the advertisement, ENSUBEB is seeking 4,698 teachers in core subject areas, including Mathematics, English Language, Basic Science, Basic Technology, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), French, Igbo Language and History.

Other available positions include 520 Digital Librarians, 380 Experiential Learning Innovators, 267 Guidance Counsellors, 267 ICT personnel, 267 Laboratory Attendants, 136 Account Officers and 45 Technicians.

The board stated that applicants for teaching positions must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, a Higher National Diploma (HND) with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), or a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in the relevant subject areas.

It added that registration, proof of registration or evidence of ongoing registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is mandatory for all teaching applicants.

For non teaching positions, the board said qualification requirements vary depending on the role, ranging from degrees in specialised disciplines such as Library and Information Science, STEM and Psychology to Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Trade Test Certificates and SSCE/WASSCE qualifications for Laboratory Attendants, Technicians and ICT personnel.

ENSUBEB further stated that candidates applying with a Bachelor’s Degree or HND must present a valid National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge or exemption certificate.

The board also made practical proficiency in Information and Communication Technology a compulsory requirement for applicants across all categories.

Interested candidates are required to submit a formal application letter, detailed curriculum vitae, copies of academic credentials, birth certificate or sworn affidavit of age, and valid contact information.

ENSUBEB emphasised that the recruitment exercise is free of charge and urged applicants to beware of fraudsters demanding payment.

The board announced that applications will close on Friday, August 14, 2026.
