CALABAR, CROSS RIVER – Cross River State Government has unveiled plans to develop new urban layouts across the state’s three senatorial districts as part of efforts to improve physical planning, attract investment and stimulate economic growth.
Commissioner for Lands, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang, disclosed the plan while outlining his priorities after assuming office following his redeployment by Governor Bassey Edet Otu.
He said the Ministry would collaborate with stakeholders and development partners to establish modern communities capable of supporting housing, agriculture, commerce, tourism and industrial development.
“Working in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and development partners, we shall initiate the development of new, well-planned layouts and modern urban communities across the three senatorial districts,” he stated.
Ekpang added that the Ministry would restore orderly physical planning in Calabar, Ikom, Ugep, Ogoja, Obudu and other emerging urban centres.
According to him, illegal developments, encroachment on drainage channels and unapproved construction would be addressed in accordance with the law.
