The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a fresh directive stating that prospective corps members who fail to obtain clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) will not be mobilised for national service.
The announcement is part of the scheme’s preparations for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ mobilisation exercise, as the NYSC moves to tighten verification procedures and enhance safety measures for corps members travelling to orientation camps.
In a notice posted on its official X account on Monday, the NYSC said NERD clearance is now a compulsory requirement for mobilisation.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.
Reaffirming the directive, the agency added, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
The NYSC urged prospective corps members to complete the verification process early, warning that failure to obtain the clearance could delay their mobilisation into the national service programme.
Although the scheme did not explain the clearance procedure, the directive signals tighter verification measures ahead of the next orientation exercise.
The advisory comes hours after the NYSC announced the mobilisation of another batch of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year.
The scheme had urged tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required documentation before the commencement of the orientation programme.
The latest directive also follows a recent safety advisory in which the NYSC cautioned prospective corps members against travelling to orientation camps at night.
The scheme urged prospective corps members undertaking long-distance journeys to take necessary precautions by splitting their trips where required and seeking accommodation at safe locations or designated military and security formations, rather than travelling at night.
The NYSC said the latest measures reflect its commitment to enhancing the credibility of the mobilisation process while prioritising the safety and security of prospective corps members amid ongoing concerns over risks on major highways across the country.
