Nigeria’s Super Falcons booked their place in the WAFCON 2026 quarter-finals with a commanding 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final Group C match at the Rabat Olympic Stadium on Wednesday night.
Rinsola Babajide starred as Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 21st minute before Gift Monday doubled Nigeria’s lead in first-half stoppage time after being set up by Babajide.
Nadine Ghazi pulled one back for Egypt with a penalty deep into first-half added time, leaving the Falcons ahead 2-1 at the break.
Nigeria took control after the break through Uchenna Kanu, Christy Ucheibe, Rasheedat Ajibade; Kanu scored within seconds of coming on as a substitute before Ucheibe added a fourth from the penalty spot, while Ghazi grabbed her second goal of the contest for Egypt after a well worked counter attack.
Nigeria finished the job in stoppage time as captain Ajibade and substitute Omewa added further strikes to seal a commanding victory.
The victory ensured Nigeria advanced to the quarter-finals alongside Malawi, who lost to Zambia 2-1 in the other Group C fixture.
Malawi finished top of the group on the tiebreak criteria after all three leading teams ended with six points. Nigeria also qualified with six points, while Zambia exited the competition despite recording two victories.
Egypt finished bottom after losing all three matches and conceding 15 goals.
Nigeria will now turn their attention to the knockout stage, where they are set to face Cameroon in the quarter-finals.
