Osun Election: INEC Says Over 1.9 Million PVCs Collected Ahead Of Saturday’s Poll

OSUN, OSHOGBO – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

The figure represents 81.50 per cent of the 2,339,233 registered voters in the state, while 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, remain uncollected.

In a statement issued on Thursday, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the uncollected PVCs had been securely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in line with the commission’s established procedure.

The commission also revealed that 6,101 voters whose PVCs were lost, damaged or defaced and who applied for replacements had successfully printed downloadable copies of their voter cards.

INEC said it had published a detailed polling-unit-by-polling-unit breakdown of the collected PVCs on its website.

The electoral empire reaffirmed its preparedness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive election on Saturday, August 15, assuring political parties, civil society organisations, the media and residents of its readiness for the exercise.

The Osun governorship election will take place across the state’s 30 local government areas, with voters choosing among candidates seeking to lead the state for the next four years.
