President Donald Trump said Wednesday, 9th, 2026 that he expects the US-Iran war to end shortly after November’s midterm elections, accusing Tehran of trying to influence the vote that will decide whether Republicans retain control of Congress.
“I think war is going to end immediately after the election because they can’t hold out any longer. They’re desperate to try and affect the election,” Trump told reporters.
According to report gathered by Truth Live News International, top White House advisers, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have privately warned Trump the conflict could extend through the remainder of his presidency, which ends in January 2029.
Speaking at the midterm Republican convention, Trump also renewed his threat to strike Pickaxe Mountain, a heavily fortified site housing two deeply buried tunnel complexes near Iran’s damaged Natanz uranium enrichment facility.
“We notice there’s a little activity at Pickaxe. I would advise Iran not to get cute because we will have to hit them very hard,” he said.
Trump has been raising the possibility of striking the site since at least mid-July, and a recent satellite imagery analysis cited by CNN found a clear surge in construction activity there in 2026, though it concluded the underground facility does not yet appear capable of enrichment work.
The renewed threats come as fighting between the US and Iran escalates rather than winds down. Iran said it attacked 10 ships near the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday after the US sank five Iranian oil tankers, part of a series of tit-for-tat strikes showing little sign of an imminent end to hostilities, while just seven vessels transited the strait on Wednesday, half the 10-day average.
Brent crude has held above $100 a barrel amid the disruption to both the Hormuz and Red Sea shipping routes, and the war and resulting rise in fuel prices have contributed to driving Trump’s popularity to record lows.
