Lucky Obukohwo Reporting

The Edo State Government has intensified its drive to attract both local and international investment, spotlighting vast opportunities across critical sectors including mining, agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, power and the digital economy.

The initiative is aimed at positioning Edo as a competitive investment destination while unlocking new avenues for economic growth, job creation and sustainable development.

Commissioner for Business, Trade and Investment, Omoh Anabor, said the government was implementing bold reforms to create a more investor-friendly business environment.

He noted that the administration was leveraging digitisation, streamlining approval processes and dismantling bureaucratic bottlenecks to make it easier and faster for businesses to operate, while also taking steps to reduce the burden of multiple taxation on investors and businesses.

Anabor disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

He highlighted Edo State’s rich mineral resources, agricultural products such as palm produce, cashew, rice, cassava and pineapple, as well as its cultural heritage and tourism attractions, as key areas with significant investment potential.

Anabor also disclosed plans to expand the Made-in-Edo initiative through an online platform to connect local producers with domestic and international buyers, while digital-skills programmes would equip youths for opportunities in the global technology market.

He said investors from sectors including agro-processing, fertiliser production, real estate and tourism had already expressed interest in the state.

The commissioner further urged investors to come to Edo, create jobs and contribute to economic growth, assuring them of the government’s commitment to building a business-friendly environment.
