CROSS RIVER, CALABAR – The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Calabar, has paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo, the 2027 ADC governorship candidate in Cross River State, with discussions centring on media engagement and future collaboration.

The delegation visited Toyo at her campaign office in Calabar, where both sides discussed the role of the media in public communication, balanced reporting and political engagement.

General Manager of FRCN Calabar, Dr Fidelis Omongbale, said the organisation recognised the importance of engaging stakeholders while maintaining its responsibility to the public.

He said FRCN would continue to uphold human rights and balance information from different sides, including the public, government and other stakeholders.

“We always try to balance the information. We encourage ourselves to maintain that realm of harmony of issues,” Omongbale said.

He added that the station would continue doing its best to ensure that different sides received opportunities to present their views, stressing the importance of responsible public communication.

Responding, Toyo said her team had discussed ways of developing a creative relationship with the media, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.

“We have had an in-house conversation on how we can engage with you and how we can partner with you,” Toyo said.

She disclosed that the expected visit of the party’s vice-presidential candidate could provide an opportunity for initial media engagement, including discussions around issues that would generate public interest.

Toyo said the proposed activities could examine key issues, expected outcomes and other matters relevant to the public ahead of the visit.

“We are happy to come. We are happy to share the stories. We are happy to have conversations,” she said.

The ADC candidate also stressed that political communication should involve meaningful engagement with citizens rather than assuming that government could operate without public scrutiny.

She said the relationship being discussed should extend beyond the immediate political activities and develop into a broader engagement with the media.

Head of Administration, FRCN Calabar, Mr Ukpanukpong Figo, also expressed appreciation for the interaction, while reaffirming the station’s commitment to responsible broadcasting.

The meeting ended with both sides expressing interest in continued engagement, although no formal partnership agreement was announced.
