Several people has been feared dead after a NAF aircraft crashed in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Monday, October 5, 2026.
The aircraft reportedly came down in a swampy part of the creek opposite the Naval Base, which made it hard for residents to reach the site.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the crash. Spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh said the command was working to establish the circumstances and urged residents to stay calm and avoid sharing unverified information.
Reports said military equipment was recovered and that the aircraft had burnt beyond recognition, and the Nigerian Air Force has reportedly confirmed ownership of the aircraft and launched a rescue operation.
As of the time of writing, the number of people on board, the confirmed casualty figures, the mission of the flight and the cause of the crash had not been officially disclosed.
Igbokoda is a major commercial hub in the riverine, oil-producing part of Ondo State. Residents are waiting for an official update from the authorities.
