Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has mourned former Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of Akwa Ibom State University, Comrade Etimbuk Daniel, following reports of his death at a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Enugu State.

Eno described Daniel’s death as a painful loss to his family and the student community in a condolence statement made available on social media by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh.

“I received with sadness the news of the tragic passing of Comrade Etimbuk Daniel, a promising young leader whose life was cut short while answering the call to serve our nation,” the governor said in the statement.

Eno extended condolences to Daniel’s family, the leadership and members of the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAKISS), students of Akwa Ibom origin across the world and SUG presidents in tertiary institutions.

“Our youths are our future, and losing such a brilliant young man, with a bright future ahead of him, is deeply painful. His passing represents a huge loss to our State and the student community he served with dedication,” he said.

The governor prayed that God would grant Daniel’s family, friends, colleagues and the wider student community the strength to bear the loss.

A previous death was also reported at the Enugu NYSC orientation camp in November 2015.

In a report published on November 4, 2015, Omojuwa reported that a female corps member had died in her sleep at the camp. The report said the cause of her death had not been established at the time and that camp activities were suspended.

The earlier report provides historical context but does not establish any connection between the two deaths or indicate a recurring pattern at the camp.

Governor Eno’s condolence statement did not provide details about the circumstances surrounding Daniel’s reported death.
