Manchester United’s frustrating start to the Premier League season dragged on at Elland Road on Sunday, after playing out a 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Ellan Road.
In a game where Leeds United enjoy much of the ball possession, it was united who struck first in the 35th after a Mbeumo slams home a lovely pass from Tielemas, Leeds has many chances to draw level before the interval, but were unable to convert at the back post.
Leeds united were rewarded for their efforts fee minutes into the second half, when Calvert- Lewin heads home an inswinger cross from a set piece leaving Lammens rooted to his spot.
Both teams had enough chances to take the lead, but the defence line of both teams remained determined, equal to the chance of keeping each other at bay.
The numbers show a United side that was far from convincing. Leeds dominated the ball with 63 percent possession and put six shots on target to the visitors’ four, with United sitting deep and relying on the saves of goalkeeper Senne Lammens. Four yellow cards, two for each side, were handed out in a scrappy contest.
The draw is United’s fourth in their last six league outings, a run that also includes a 1-0 home defeat to Manchester City and draws with Everton, Fulham and Tottenham. A 5-2 win over Ipswich Town remains the only victory in that stretch.
With Bournemouth visiting Old Trafford next Sunday and a trip to Chelsea after that, the pressure is mounting Carrick and his men to turn draws into wins before the season slips further away.
