Jigawa Police Nab 27-Year-Old Vandal Hours After 16-Year Power Blackout Ends in Jigawa Community

Barely days after Taura Local Government Area and surrounding communities rejoiced over restoration of electricity after more than 16 years in darkness, the Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly vandalising power cables.

Police spokesman, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, describing it as part of intensified operations to protect lives and property across the state.

“On 29/11/2025 at about 1230hrs, operatives attached to the Taura Division arrested one Adamu Yahaya of Kwalam town, Taura LGA, for vandalism,” the statement read.

SP Adam said the suspect was nabbed following credible intelligence on suspicious activity at a criminal hideout in Kwalam town.

“The suspect was arrested in possession of three (3) sacks containing electric wire, which he had unlawfully removed from public power infrastructure.”

Preliminary investigation, according to the police, showed that Yahaya conspired with fleeing accomplices to sabotage the newly restored electricity supply in the area.

The recovered cables have been taken into custody while discreet investigation continues to apprehend other members of the syndicate.

The suspect will be arraigned upon conclusion of investigation.

Residents of Taura have expressed outrage over the incident, warning that anyone caught tampering with the long-awaited power infrastructure risks community wrath.
