Police in Abia State say they have increased security around schools, places of worship and other key public facilities, following directives from Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police.
The State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, announced the measures during a security meeting on Tuesday attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, company security heads, school administrators and market leaders.
As part of the new strategy, the Command has introduced routine registers in schools to ensure officers posted to protective duties are fully accountable and present at their assigned locations.
Isa said such engagements with community stakeholders would now be held regularly to monitor evolving security concerns across the state.
He urged residents to work closely with local police divisions and area commands, stressing that “timely information is crucial to preventing crime.”
The Commissioner also called for the revival of community security watch groups and warned against the habit of shielding criminal suspects.
“Those involved in such acts must desist,” he said, adding that every community has a role to play in safeguarding its environment.
Isa assured attendees that both visible and undercover policing efforts had been intensified, and the public should expect greater police presence in the coming weeks.
Stakeholders at the meeting welcomed the initiative and pledged full cooperation with the police to ensure Abia State remains safe.
