The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has approved the prompt release of an additional N1.6 billion to pay down the arrears of gratuities of the state retired workers.
In line with his promise, Eno said in a statement on Tuesday that the amount is designed to continue to pay down the arrears of gratuities of retired primary school teachers, local government workers and civil servants in the State.
Signed by his Chief Press Secretary Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno in the statement said he is determined to keep to the promise he made to the State Organized Labour during their one – day national protest march, to regularly set aside funds to continue the payment of gratuities.
Recall that the Governor had previously released N3 billion for the same purpose, bringing the total amount so far released to N4.6 billion, “a great feat by all accounts,” Media Unit Government House, Uyo stated.
