CALABAR – Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in-charge of Border Patrol, AIG Banji Lawal, has been directed by the Inspector General of Police to reinforce security at specific border points within the state.
AIG Lawal made this known when he visited the Cross River State Deputy Governor Rt Hon. Peter Odey in Calabar.
To acquaint himself with the Deputy Governor, Lawal highlighted the aims of his visit to include combating arms trafficking and reducing cross-border crime.
For instance, “the Nigerian Police Border Patrol Unit, focuses on combating arms trafficking and reducing cross-border crime.”
Also, the AIG revealed the unit’s efforts in collaboration with police in the neighboring countries to curb the influx of arms and ammunition, crucial for stemming criminal activities.
The Chief Press Secretary to Deputy Governor Mr Fred Abua Esq. In a social media post said AIG Lawal informed the Rt Hon. Odey of IG’s concerns over activities linked to groups like the Ambazonians from Cameroon.
Abua also told Truth Live news that the visit underscores ongoing efforts to fortify border security and foster cooperation between law enforcement agencies at all levels.
The medium learned that the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Gyogon Grimah and other Senior officers accompanied AIG Lawal on the visit.
Additionally, the Deputy Governor’s Press Unit, Calabar reported that Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, received the AIG on Thursday in his office.
The Deputy Governor said Yache-Benue boundary conflict in the Cross River Northern Senatorial District claimed 14 lives.
According to report, the unfortunate incident resulted from a dispute over the failure of a tenant to fulfill the obligation of a goat to the landlord community.
After he commended the professionalism exhibited by the Cross River State Commissioner of Police and his team, he emphasized the challenges faced by the state.
Odey expressed believe that “no community can be entirely crime-free,” but praised Governor Sen. Bassey Otu-led administration’s commitment to prioritizing peace and security for all residents.
He thanked the collaborative efforts of the police and other security agencies in the protection of lives and property in the affected areas of Cross River state.
