Former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi has pledged to block President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, accusing the administration of failing Nigerians.
Speaking to supporters at Port Harcourt International Airport on Wednesday, Amaechi urged citizens to register with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), his new political party, which he says is committed to ending what he described as “bad governance and widespread hardship.”
“This coming is just to reassure our supporters and Rivers people that there is a new party in town,” Amaechi said. “Every Rivers man who thinks good of the state and the country should move to register with the new party and ensure that we remove the current government and stop the hunger everybody is suffering from.”
Amaechi, a former All Progressives Congress presidential aspirant, said the ADC would run a government focused on citizens’ welfare. He criticised Tinubu for being “insensitive” to Nigerians’ struggles, citing rising living costs and high electricity bills.
“If you are not tired of Tinubu, I’m tired of President Tinubu. If you’re not hungry, I’m hungry,” Amaechi told the cheering crowd. “The President says he is not here to make you happy. But ADC is here to make you happy.”
He promised that the ADC’s presidential candidate would emerge through a transparent primary process, adding that all members would rally behind whoever wins.
Amaechi also vowed not to collaborate with individuals involved in election result manipulation, calling for fair and credible polls in Rivers State.
