The Anambra state government has approved the establishment of bureau of missing persons in the State.
In a statement on Saturday, the Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu said that the approval was made at the state Executive Council meeting and it will be house by the ministry of Justice.
He said that one of the Bureau’s responsibilities was to track down cases of missing people and create the necessary database to aid in police investigations and, if necessary, the prosecution of suspects.
He also said that the establishment of the bureau was part of the fulfillment of the recommendation by the Truth, Justice and Peace Commission.
It will be recalled that on June 23, 2022, Governor Soludo, pursuant to the Commission of Inquiry Law of Anambra State, inaugurated the Truth, Justice and Peace Commission which has Professor Chidi Anselm Odinkalu as the chairman, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu as the Secretary and Professor Sylvia Chike Ifemeje as one of its Commissioners.
According to Nwosu, the purpose of the committee was to seek a restorative justice approach for truth-telling or real facts, and for the healing of the victims of violence.
“It was to account for the responsibility and accountability of the actors and conditional mercy for the repentant perpetrators.
“It was also to handle victims’ restitution for certain losses and rehabilitation to allow restoration of peace and justice as well as the promotion of development in the state, he added. (NAN)
