A well-known celebrity native doctor in Anambra State, Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba, has been arrested by Agunechemba, a local security group.

According to a report on Soludo TV, he was taken into custody on Saturday evening in Oba, Idemili South.

The post stated: “Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba denies Okeite and has been detained for further investigation by the security agency.”

His arrest follows allegations that he prepared charms for Kidnappers posing as internet fraudsters (Yahoo boys), who have been terrorising the state.

Concerned by rising crime rates, the Anambra State government enacted the Homeland Security Law in 2025, imposing strict penalties on native doctors who create or administer charms, including ‘Odeshi,’ ‘Okeite,’ and ‘Mkpu Egbe.’

Under the new law, offenders face up to six years in prison, a N20 million fine, or both. The legislation specifically targets individuals who manufacture charms believed to offer protection or wealth through unlawful means, as well as those who publicly promote such practices.

Authorities say investigations into Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba’s activities are ongoing.
