The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Esan North East Local Government Area has expressed strong discontent with the inclusion of Rt. Hon. Matthew Egbadon, a known member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in the recently announced transition committee for Edo State.
In a petition addressed to Emperor Jarret Tenebe, the Edo State APC Chairman, the local chapter demanded the immediate withdrawal of Egbadon’s name from the committee, citing concerns over his political allegiance.
The petition, signed by the executive members of the Esan North East APC chapter, such as Hon. Emmanuel Ibhagbemien(Chairman APC, Esan North East LGA), Akin Okoukoni Sunday (Vice Chairman APC, Esan North East LGA), Hon. Ayewoh Ambrose Oyakhilome (Secretary APC, Esan North East LGA) and 35 others, emphasized that Egbadon’s inclusion undermines the party’s principles and values. According to the petition, Egbadon not only financed the PDP but also actively campaigned against the APC and its candidates during the last general election held on February 25, 2023, and the Edo State governorship election in September 2021. The chapter considers his appointment a “betrayal of trust” and a disregard for the party’s integrity.
The petitioners urged the Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to remove Egbadon from the transition committee and replace him with a loyal APC member. They also called for future appointments to be made following proper consultations and verification within the party, warning that such decisions could harm party unity and morale. The APC Esan North East chapter expressed hope for prompt action to resolve the issue.
