Former Nigerian Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has voiced strong criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s handling of the country’s economy, amidst growing public frustration.
Abubakar joined concerned citizens in expressing dissatisfaction, referring to the president as “T-Pain”—a nickname originally associated with American singer Faheem Najm but now adopted by social media users to reflect Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions.
In a tweet on Thursday, Abubakar highlighted the escalating inflation rates, calling them alarming and accusing President Tinubu of being indifferent to the economic hardships affecting millions of Nigerians.
He described Tinubu’s economic policies as “haphazard” and his approach as “disingenuous,” blaming poor governance for the country’s deepening economic crisis.
“As things stand, there will be no respite from the rising inflation, which is severely impacting the material well-being of Nigerians,” Abubakar stated, adding that it is troubling that “T-Pain seems undisturbed by the suffering across the nation.”
This criticism comes at a time when Nigerians are grappling with a significant rise in the cost of living, prompting widespread concerns over the government’s economic direction.
