Ayu, PDP, INEC Officials Risk Jail Over Enforcement Of Court Order

Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, national chairman, Iyochia Ayu, Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, Bar Festus Okoye, the commissions legal adviser as well as other party officials of the PDP stand the risk of being jailed if a federal high court ruling on 7 July over the choice of David Edevbie as the authentic candidate of PDP is not implemented ahead 2023 governorship election.

 

The court ruling had disqualified Oborevwhori Sheriff Frances Orohwedor as the party candidate after it found that PDP submitted false information and forged credentials and certificates on behalf of the candidate in the primaries.

 

But in a notice of consequence of disobedience of court order also issued, the court warned the defendants of the risk of going to jail over contempt charges.

“Take Notice that unless you obey the directions contained inthe order of the Federal High Court, dated the 7th day of July 2022, you will be gullty of Contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison.

 

“On 25th May, 2022 for the purpose of electing its candiodate or flag bearer in theforthcoming 2023 Gubernatorial Elections in Delta State, scheduled to hold on 1Ith March, 2023 by the 3rd Defendant.

“That having supplied false information and Submitted credentials/certificates dubious forged order participate in and be declared the winer of The PDP’s Delta State’s Governorship Primary elections which held an 25th May, 2022 (PDP) herein is legally precluded from submiting, forwarding or otherwise transmitting the name of (Sheriff) to the third 3rd Defendant (INEC) as the candidate,” the ruling said.
