As the third edition of Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) enters crucial stage, Edo Queens Football Club of Benin will this evening, lock horns with Remo Stars Ladies in the battle for the finals by 4pm at the Western Boys High School Mini Stadium in Benin City, a match which will either make one of the teams a winner and the other a loser.
In the preliminary stage, the Red- hot ladies from the ancient City of Benin Edo Queens’ humbled Naija Ratels 3-0, went on to beat coach Mathew Wemimo -led girls by 2-1 in a highly tensed game, also spank Heartland Queens 2-1.
This semi final battle between Edo Queens led -Moses Aduku and Mathew Wemimo Ladies from Ogun State is going to be an epic war of supremacy, as fans expect a high level of technical impute from the bench.
The reason is simple, coach Moses Aduku and Mathew Wemimo were colleagues at the National U- 20 women team. Again Mathew Wemimo was sacked by Edo State as manager of Edo Queens and replaced by Moses Aduku. In the group stage of the first Betsy Obaseki Women Football Pre-season tournament, Edo Queens beat Remo Stars Ladies, again both teams meet today in the semi’s. One expect to see a display of football artistry from both side. This is a match that requires the technical expertise of both managers because of the rating of Edo Queens by football fans.
To reach the semi final stage, Godwin Obaseki girls have secured three successive wins in three matches and a win in this crucial semi final game against Remo Star ladies will give Edo Queens ticket to the prestigious finals.
Earlier this month, Edo Queens also went to Abuja and won the Sheroes Pre-season Cup tournament beating the six teams that participated in the tournament.
In the second edition of BOWFT, Edo Queens got to the finals and loss 1-0 to the defending Champions FC Robo Queens who were sent out of the competition by Remo Stars.
One thing is sure, Edo Queens is going into the field with full confidence and determination hoping for total victory.
