A suit that was instituted at the Federal High Court Benin City by one Mr. Mathew Iduoriyekemwen and others seeking the court to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and PDP to show cause why their names should not be accepted has been rejected.
The court refused to grant them the retraining orders for INEC not to publish the list of Legacy PDP.
The court however granted leave for the Legacy PDP to be joined in the suit as requested by their lawyers.
The case has been adjoined for the substantive hearing until 18th, July 2022.
The court held that it cannot stop INEC from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities, however, instructed that the status quo be maintained by the electoral body, which had already received and accepted the list of candidates from the camp of the National Vice Chairman, South-South, who emerged from the primaries monitored by INEC.
The application by the plaintiffs to stop INEC from taking further steps pending the determination of this case was turned down by the Judge, who pronounced, it thus;Â “not granted”, according to Truthlive.net correspondent in Benin
Furthermore, His Lordship also granted the request by the Legacy PDP Lawyers to be joined, in the suit.
