The Police in Edo State has confirmed yet another attack by a suspected terrorist group, herdsmen, which occurred in Igueben train station, in the state where yet-to-be-determined numbers of passengers traveling to Warri, Delta State, were kidnapped.
In a press statement released by the state command and signed by the spokesman, Mr. Chidi Nwabuzor, on Saturday night, the attack took place at about 4.00 pm the same day.
Some of the passengers were said to have sustained injuries as the terrorists were armed with AK-47s and other dangerous weapons, though the statement read that the police were already combing the forest searching for the kidnapped victims.
The press statement obtained by Truth Live News reads in parts:
“This is to inform the gentlemen of the press that today, 7th of January, 2023 at about 1600hrs, an unspecified number of Herdsmen armed with AK 47 riffles attacked the train station at Igueben, Edo State and kidnapped an unspecified number of passengers who were waiting to board the train to Warri.
“The kidnappers who shot sporadically into the air before kidnapping some passengers left some persons with bullet wounds.
“The Area Commander Irrua, DPO Igueben Division, and men have visited the scene of the crime with members of Edo State Security Network, local vigilantes, and hunters with a view to protecting the lives and property of the remaining passengers.
“Bush Combing operations have commenced in order to rescue the victims and arrest the fleeing kidnappers. Further development will be communicated.
