Following the conclusion that top on the demands by Team Wike for peace to return to Nigeria`s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that the national chairman of the party must resign, news coming from the camp of the Presidential candidate of the party, Mr. Atiku Abubakar indicated that the former vice president has acceded to that popular demand.
The River State governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike, along with his counterparts from Abia, Benue, and Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu, Samuel Ortom, and Seyi Makinde respectively had held a meeting with the party candidate in London, where it was tabled before him, among other demands that the embattled chairman must go.
The agitation for the resignation of Sen Ayu has gained more voices in the last few days as the chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Mr. Walid Jubril added his perspective to the call when he said on national television that the imbalance currently in the Party must be addressed for peace to reign.
A source close to the former vice president who spoke to Truthlive.net in London confirmed that Ayu`s exit has been agreed to by the candidate but they are only looking for a more honorable way to create a soft landing for the former senate president who is seen as one of the closest allies to Atiku.
In his words: “Our principal has heeded to that demand that Ayu should go since it is becoming a popular demand by the vast majority of the party, not just Wike`s camp alone”.
“I can confirm to you that key members of our camp are not comfortable with Ayu remaining as national chair and if that is what it will take for peace to return, we will gladly ensure that he leaves because we need everyone to come together to deliver our Principal, the Waziri Adamawa”, the source who spoke our correspondent in confidence stressed.
There has been a growing demand from major stakeholders and PDP faithful across the Nigerian state for the national chairman to resign as he had promised during the time of being made the chair that he would resign if a candidate emerged who is from the north.
