The Funtua Inland Dry Port (FIDP) marked a historic milestone today with the arrival of its first import containers, officially commencing operations.

Truth Live News confirmed that the containers, transported under Customs escort from Lagos, signal a new era of economic and logistical advancement for the region.

The FIDP, strategically located to serve Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Niger states, is set to become a critical hub for international trade. Its operations are expected to reduce dependence on coastal ports, cut transportation costs, and promote economic activities in Nigeria’s hinterlands.

Speaking at the event, FIDP officials lauded the collaborative efforts of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), and Customs in making the milestone possible.

“This is not just the start of operations for the port; it is a gateway to economic empowerment for the entire northern region,” an official noted.

Traders and business owners in the region have expressed optimism, citing the port’s potential to ease import and export processes while fostering regional development. The port’s inauguration aligns with Nigeria’s broader vision to enhance trade and logistics infrastructure nationwide.

The Funtua Inland Dry Port is poised to transform the economic landscape of the region, establishing itself as a beacon of trade connectivity.
