Toba Owojaiye reporting
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has taken decisive action in response to the escalating situation in Adamawa State. Due to widespread unrest and lawlessness, a 24-hour curfew has been declared across the entire state.
The unrest was triggered by residents looting various warehouses, claiming to be in search of ‘palliatives.’
Specifically, the looting has been observed around the PZ warehouse near the roundabout mai doki, opposite the airforce base in Adamawa.
The announcement of the curfew was made by Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, on Sunday, July 30, 2023. Governor Fintiri expressed concern about the dangerous activities of hoodlums in the state capital, where they have been attacking people, vandalizing private businesses, and intruding into homes, stealing belongings.
Effective immediately, the curfew applies throughout the state, restricting all movement. Only individuals with valid identification on essential duties will be allowed to move during this period. The Governor earnestly appeals to all citizens and residents to comply with the curfew directive, and he warns that those found disobeying the order will face legal consequences and be subject to arrest.
The situation remains tense as the authorities strive to restore peace and stability in Adamawa State.
