Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano, has sacked Adamu Aliyu, the commissioner for lands, for issuing a threat to the judges of the governorship election petition tribunal in the state.

Additionally, the Governor has also terminated the services of Yusuf Imam, the Special Adviser on Youths and Sports, for making inappropriate remarks about Vice President Kashim Shattima.

Aliyu had, during a special prayer session held on Friday for Governor Yusuf’s success at the tribunal, made comments in which he stated that any judge accepting a bribe would face severe consequences, even with their life.

He also issued threats of death against anyone competing for the governorship position.

However, in a statement released on Friday night, the commissioner for information, Baba Dantiye, said the Governor has relieved Aliyu of his appointment over “unguarded comments”.

“The attention of the Kano State Government has been drawn to videos trending on social media platforms featuring the state Commissioner of Land and Physical Planning, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Kibiya making threatening statements on judges of the Tribunal, while that of the Special Adviser on Youth and Sport, Alhaji Yusuf Imam making unguarded and disrespectful statements on His Excellency Alhaji Kashim Shettima GCON, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“While condemning the unfortunate threat to the judges and the disrespect shown to the VP, we wish to make it categorically clear that the views expressed do not represent the official position of the State Government under the leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“It is important to emphasise that neither of the two officials has any clearance to speak on behalf of the government and neither of them serves as the official spokesperson of the government,” the commissioner said.
