Breaking: Bandits Bomb Bridge, Kill Eight in Fresh Niger Attacks

In a chilling escalation of violence, suspected terrorists in the early hours of Monday bombed a key bridge along Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, in what authorities believe is a calculated attempt to disrupt ongoing military operations in the region.

The attack, which occurred at about 2:00 a.m., targeted a strategic bridge linking Luma, Babana, and Agwara communities—areas that have suffered repeated attacks in recent months. The destruction has effectively cut off vital movement routes, crippling both civilian and security access.

Local sources told Truth Live News that the attack has also dealt a heavy blow to economic activities, particularly the bustling Babana border market, usually held every Monday. Traders and residents were reportedly stranded, unable to access the market due to the damaged bridge.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that the attackers are suspected to have emerged from the Kainji National Park axis, a known hideout for armed groups in the region.

“On 23rd March 2026 at about 6:30 a.m., a report was received indicating that earlier, at about 2:00 a.m., suspected terrorists from the park forest used an explosive device to bomb a bridge along Luma Road in Borgu LGA,” Abiodun said. “The bridge was damaged in what appears to be an attempt to undermine security operations in the area. Monitoring continues, while clearance operations have been intensified.”

In a related development, tragedy struck along the Nuku-Woro road, where a commercial vehicle carrying eight passengers reportedly ran over another Improvised Explosive Device (IED). All occupants of the vehicle were said to have died instantly in the explosion.

Residents believe the deadly device was planted by the same group of armed bandits terrorising the area, although the police have yet to officially confirm the incident involving the victims.
