Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has directed all serving local government council members with political ambitions to resign from their current positions.
The directive, which has stirred significant reactions across the state, is aimed at ensuring focus, accountability, and the proper functioning of local government administration.
According to sources within the state government, Governor Lawal emphasized that public office holders must not combine governance responsibilities with political campaigns, stressing that doing so undermines service delivery and public trust.
“Anyone who intends to contest for any elective position in 2027 must step down immediately,” the governor reportedly stated during a high-level meeting with local government officials. “Governance is a full-time responsibility, and Zamfara people deserve undivided attention.”
