The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has announced plans to arraign former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, before a Federal High Court in Kaduna over alleged corruption-related offences.
According to the commission, the arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, following growing pressure from political groups, civil society organisations, and family members who had criticised his continued detention without formal charges.
In a statement, the ICPC confirmed that El-Rufai will be arraigned alongside one Joel Adoga in a case involving allegations such as conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering.
“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission is set to arraign the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i and one Joel Adoga at the Federal High Court of Nigeria in the Kaduna Judicial Division on Tuesday, the 24th March 2026,” the statement read. “The suit with number FHC/KD/73/2026 has charges ranging from conversion of and possession of public property, to money laundering.”
The agency also disclosed that a separate case has been filed at a Kaduna State High Court, where El-Rufai faces additional charges including abuse of office, fraud, and conferring undue advantage. The date for that arraignment is yet to be announced.
The move comes after weeks of controversy surrounding his detention. Stakeholders, including the African Democratic Congress and the Muslim Rights Concern, had raised concerns over what they described as a violation of his constitutional rights, calling for either his release or formal prosecution.
El-Rufai was initially detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after honouring an invitation in February. Although he was granted bail shortly after, he was subsequently taken into custody by the ICPC, where he has remained since then.
The anti-graft agency stated that all legal procedures have been followed and reaffirmed its commitment to due process and the rule of law.
The upcoming court appearance is expected to mark a significant step in the legal proceedings, as attention turns to how the high-profile case will unfold in court.
