Peter Obi Pays Visit to Malami Amid Ongoing Trial

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has paid a visit to ex-Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in a show of support as the latter faces ongoing court proceedings.

The development was disclosed by the African Democratic Congress, which confirmed that the visit was linked to Malami’s recent legal challenges involving multiple agencies and court actions.

“He, Peter Obi visits Abubakar Malami SAN to express support over his recent experiences with the EFCC, DSS and subsequent court proceedings by the Federal High Court FCT,” the party stated.

While details of their meeting remain undisclosed, the visit is believed to have taken place in Abuja.

Malami is currently standing trial over allegations including terrorism financing, illegal possession of firearms, as well as an alleged ₦8.7 billion fraud and money laundering case.

Proceedings continued on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where prosecution witnesses among them officials from Union Bank and Access Bank, presented evidence tied to financial transactions involving companies linked to the former minister.

During the session, Malami appeared in court alongside his wife, with their son joining shortly before proceedings were briefly paused. Several documents, including bank records and official correspondence, were admitted as exhibits by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.

The case has been adjourned until April 20 for continuation of hearing.
