Prince Joe Okojie has emerged as the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the August 16, 2025 National Assembly by-elections in the Edo Central Senatorial District.
The keenly contested primary election took place on Monday, July 21, at Ubiaja, the administrative headquarters of Esan South East Local Government Area.
According to truth live news correspondent in Ubiaja, Okojie who pulled a total of 84 votes triumphed over two other aspirants, former Esan North-East Council Chairman, John Yakubu, with 52 votes and former House of Representatives member, Hon. Friday Itulah with 21 votes.
The exercise ended with a total of 157 delegates casting their votes and no single void or invalid vote recorded.
Party delegates and supporters filled the venue, applauding the transparent and peaceful conduct of the primaries overseen by the PDP electoral committee and monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Okojie, a grassroots politician and former commissioner in the state, thanked party leaders and delegates for their confidence in his candidacy. In his acceptance speech, he pledged to offer effective representation and carry forward the developmental legacy of the PDP in Edo Central.
Meanwhile, party stakeholders and political observers say the PDP is positioning itself strategically to retain the senatorial seat in what is expected to be a highly competitive by-election.
