Security operatives have arrested four suspected bandits near the airport perimeter in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, following a coordinated security operation involving multiple agencies.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued late Sunday by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, which disclosed that the suspects were apprehended around the vicinity of Akure Airport after security personnel responded to a distress alert about suspicious movements near the airport fence.
According to FAAN, security officials observed individuals moving behind the airport perimeter toward the nearby Eleye community, prompting an immediate joint response from aviation and local security agencies.
The operation involved personnel from FAAN’s Aviation Security unit, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Police Force, alongside local security outfits including the regional security network known as Amotekun and community vigilantes.
FAAN explained that during the search operation, some individuals attempted to flee the area, but four suspects were eventually apprehended by the joint security team. The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force Area Command for further interrogation and investigation.
The aviation authority commended the swift collaboration among the security agencies, noting that their coordinated efforts were crucial in preventing a potential security breach around the airport.
