Popular Nigerian singer and Grammy-award winner Damini Ogulu, well-known as Burna Boy has described the moment he realized he was a successful musican.
He claimed that in 2014, while performing at a concert in the Eastern region of Nigeria, he experienced an outpouring of affection that made him realize that his music was well-liked and that he has become a star.
The Port Harcourt-born music icon claims that the event was a turning point in his career since South Easterners are not open to outsiders and the large audience proved he’s now a star.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, he discussed this and stressed that he had never before encountered that kind of affection and that it seemed unreal.
His words;
“They only like their own people, so if you’ve crossed over there and you’re not from there then you know you have popped.
I have never seen anything like that, I didn’t even think it was real (laughs) It was a real thing that could happen.”
