Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s commitment to a “friends forever, never enemies” relationship with Russia during his visit to Moscow.

This stance serves as a foundation for advancing strategic cooperation between the two nations, according to Wang.

Wang’s three-day visit to Moscow aimed to discuss strategic cooperation, despite uncertainty surrounding Ukraine ceasefire talks and US President Donald Trump’s criticism of Russian and Ukrainian leaders.

China and Russia declared a “no limits” strategic partnership in February 2022, just before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin over 40 times in the past decade, fostering cooperation on issues like Taiwan, Ukraine, and their mutual rival, the United States.

The Kremlin announced that Putin would meet with Wang, who would also engage in talks with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

Wang emphasized the importance of big powers acting as stabilizing factors, welcoming improved relations between Russia and the United States.

The Kremlin revealed that Russia and the US are exploring ideas for a possible peace settlement in Ukraine and bilateral ties.

Trump’s shift towards a more conciliatory stance towards Russia has been seen as a positive development by Wang, who believes it helps stabilize the balance of power between major nations.

Wang also dismissed notions that Trump’s support for Russia is intended to drive a wedge between Russia and China, labeling such ideas as outdated confrontational thinking.
