A Chinese national identified as Geng Quanrong has stabbed a lady identified as Ummukhulsum Sani Buhari popularly known as Ummita, to death in Kano.
According to reports, the ugly incident took place on Friday night at the popular Janbulo quarters in the state, after Geng went to Ummita’s room and slit her throat.
According to accounts given by those who apprehended him before the arrival of the police, the duo were in a relationship and they had a little quarrel.
Ummita refused to take his calls, which led to the Chinese man storming her home. Ummita’s mother who saw him approach their home in rage, tried to stop him but he pushed her aside and went to Ummita’s room, where he killed her.
Ummita’s mother while giving account of what happened said:
“She was my daughter; he (the Chinese man) always comes around wanting to see her and she has been refusing. This time around when he came, he kept knocking on the door. When I was fed up of him hitting the door loudly, I opened the door and he pushed me aside and got in and started stabbing her with a knife.
“I started shouting and people came running. We rushed her to the hospital but before we arrived, she was dead. It happened around 9.30pm. We were at home with her two younger sisters when it happened. Her brother was out and her father is dead. It was raining then, people were indoors and couldn’t hear me shouting until when someone came and tried going in through the window.”
When Geng was interrogated, he alleged that the deceased who was his girl friend, deceived him and stopped picking his calls, after promising to marry him while he had spent a lot of money on her.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said as soon as the Police was notified about the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawan, directed the DPO, Dorayi Babba, to take charge of the situation.
He stated that the suspect has already been transferred to the state headquarters at Bompai, for further investigation and prosecution.
It was reported that Ummita was buried this morning according to Islamic rites.
